Art Start invites you to our community ofrenda to remember and celebrate the lives of our loved ones passed! Join us as as we honor Dia de los Muertos and the Mexican folk art traditions tied to it.

Consider bringing photos and/or small tokens that symbolize those whose lives you would like to remember and celebrate, or choose to bring tokens that symbolize earth, water, wind, and fire.

Earth: food, such as fruit, bread, favorite family dishes - to nourish the soul.

Wind: moving objects, such as tissue paper butterflies - to represent the soul's journey to the living.

Water: a container of water or favorite beverage of the deceased - to quench the soul's thirst.

Fire: luminaries, lit candles, with extras for any forgotten souls - to represent the departed soul and illuminate their path from the shadow of death.

Other symbolic items to include: salt for purification, copal/incense to guide the souls, marigolds to make a path, a mat/rug for the soul to rest, photos to honor the individual(s) being honored, and sugar skulls inscribed with both the honored and living recipients' names on the forehead.
